Allievo di Carlo Fontana, Specchi si specializzò anche come incisore, producendo le serie di vedute di Roma. Entrato nel 1711 all´Accademia di San Luca, Specchi fu coinvolto nel 1723 nel concorso per la Scalinata di Piazza di Spagna. Allessandro Specchi: A brilliant architect and artist, the name of Allessandro Specchi is associated with some of the most notable buildings of late seventeenth and early eighteenth century Rome. Among many other accomplishments he was the principal architect of the Farnese Piazza, the Bank of Rome, the Via del Corso and the famous Spanish Steps. As an original etcher, Specchi appears to have been entirely self-taught. The majority of his finest graphic art will be found in the 52 etchings he composed for the final set of the Nuovo Teatro.
